What is the Diaconate?
The beloved Monsignor Joseph R. Roth, D.D. said it well in his book "The Deacon in Church Ministry."
In a few words, the Diaconate is a Ministry of Service. "The Diaconal service needs to be done in the name of Jesus. Deacons need to see their fellow men and women as brothers and sisters in Christ. We are one people in the Lord. We are a family. We are united by the common bonds of the Eucharist. The blood of Christ flows through all our veins and makes us one in the Lord."
At the diocesan Vocations Office, we are happy to help women in discerning their call and to assist them in finding the vocation director of the Religious Community where they feel called. Please contact Fr. Matthew Gray and he will be happy to meet with you and assist you in any way possible.
In a woman’s search for her vocation, there are many resources for her discernment. Two prominent resources are the websites for the National Religious Vocation Conference and the Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious (CMSWR). These websites can be extremely helpful to a woman in her discernment.
A woman in discernment might also check out the website of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. There are great resources on their website which can be viewed here.
